Family Photo Locations in Northern Utah I Love (and Use Often)
Choosing a location for your family photos can feel like a lot, there are so many beautiful spots in Northern Utah, and it’s hard to know which one will actually feel right for your family. Over time, I’ve found a handful of locations that I come back to again and again. Each one has a different feel, and I love helping families choose a spot that matches their style, their kids’ personalities, and the kind of photos they’re dreaming of.
Here are some of my favorite places to shoot, along with a few tips to help you picture what your session might look like in each one.
Love them wild studio - ogden
If you’re drawn to a clean, minimal, and softly styled look, the studio is such a beautiful option. It has a light, airy feel with neutral tones that keep the focus completely on your family. The vibe leans boho and modern, making it perfect for timeless images that won’t feel dated over time.
This space works especially well for newborns, cake smash sessions, and minis since everything is controlled and comfortable. You don’t have to worry about weather or lighting, everything is already set up to create soft, flattering images.
Tips: Schedule during the morning or afternoon for soft window light, and keep outfits simple to let your family shine.
Woodland Park
Woodland Park has such a soft, peaceful feel to it. The tall trees create a natural canopy, giving you that dreamy, filtered light that feels calm and flattering. It’s a great option if you want a nature setting without heading deep into the mountains.
Tips: Can get busy during the weekends in the fall and summer, can get beautiful pictures here at any time due to tree canopy.
Beau Pond (Ogden)
Beus Pond has such a quiet, peaceful feel to it. The water adds a really beautiful element to your photos, especially when it reflects the surrounding trees and sky. It’s a simple location, but that simplicity is what makes it feel calm and timeless.
It’s a great choice if you want a mix of water and greenery without a long drive. The walking paths and open areas also make it easy for families to move around.
Tips: Morning or late afternoon light works best, can get crowded with people walking the trail loop. Please be courteous!
Antelope Island
Antelope Island feels wide open and peaceful, with the lake stretching behind you and mountains in the distance. It has a soft, minimal look that feels almost coastal, which makes it really unique compared to other Utah locations.
Tips: Sunset or sunrise gives warm golden light, and gorgeous coloring. Avoid this location April through June, with that time being prime no-see-um (biting midge) season.
Tibble Fork Reservoir
Tibble Fork feels like stepping into the mountains for a little escape. With the lake, pine trees, and surrounding peaks, you get a lot of variety in one location. It’s perfect for families who want something a little more adventurous and natural.
Tips: Can be very crowded at any time of year, especially on the weekends. Canyon does require a fee to park, and does not have great phone reception.
Utah State Capitol
The Capitol has a timeless, elegant feel with its white stone, tall columns, and open space. It creates a clean and classic backdrop that feels polished but still simple. Some things to keep in mind: it can be very busy, and there is less space for kids to roam around freely.

Tips: Slightly dressier outfits photograph best here and match the elevated feel of the location.
Garden Park Ward
Garden Park Ward has such a soft, romantic feel to it. The space is known for its beautiful landscaping, with mature trees, manicured gardens, and charming architectural details that give it a slightly elegant, storybook vibe. It’s one of those locations that feels peaceful and tucked away, while still offering a more refined look than a typical park.
This location is an operating LDS church house, so no shoots allowed on Monday and Wednesday evenings and all day on Sundays.
Tips: Late spring through early fall, when everything is green and the landscaping is at its fullest. Spring can be especially pretty with fresh growth and softer tones.
Ogden Canyon
Ogden Canyon has that classic mountain feel with a mix of river, rock, and trees. It’s one of the best options if you want something that feels adventurous but still accessible.
Tips: Fall is especially beautiful with the bright orange, yellows and reds of leaves.
tunnel springs park
Tunnel Springs Park is a wide, open, field-filled park in Salt Lake City with a relaxed, natural vibe. Its gently rolling grass, scattered trees, and open skies make it a perfect spot for families who want a simple, airy, and light-filled session. Spring through early fall when the grass is green and lush. Late spring brings fresh growth, while summer gives warm, sunny tones.
Tips: Light, neutral, or soft pastel outfits work beautifully in the open fields. Encourage kids to run, play, and explore—the best moments come from movement and genuine interaction.

There really isn’t one perfect location. It just depends on what feels right for your family. Some people love the mountains and a little adventure, and others want something simple where their kids can run around and just be themselves.
